About Yee Shun Jian

SJYee Shun Jian believes adamantly that there is but little correlation between academic achievements and personal/financial success.

Shun Jian should know – after all, he graduated with a Bachelor of Computing (2nd Upper Honours) in 2006 from one of the Top 20 Universities in the World (National University of Singapore), where he majored in Information Systems and minored in Technopreneurship.

But those credentials were not what landed Shun Jian his first full-time job as a Corporate Communications Executive in a multinational corporation.

And they certainly did not prepare him for the real education in the school of hard knocks!

When his first girlfriend of more than 2.5 years left him in Oct 2006, barely 3 months after he started work, it was a wake-up call.

You spend 3/4 of your waking hours at work!” her words still rang clearly in his head.

Shun Jian realized that unwittingly, like most people he knew, he had allowed himself to be caught up in the rat race. He had become a money making machine… for someone else! Formal education had prepared him to be an employee, trading time for money.

But is there all there is to life?

Surely, there is something more…

About RichGrad.com

The idea for RichGrad.com was conceived when Shun Jian was taking a shower in May 2007 (aren’t all great ideas born this way?) He started thinking about the people around him – Bright, young Fresh Graduates lamenting about their first jobs, Highly Educated Executives trapped in the ranks of Middle Management… what do all of them have in common?

They all want a better quality of life!

RichGrad.com is about helping these people and more to create a richer life, because what’s the point of having good grades in school if you suck at life? It is also about one man’s journey of self-discovery and the lessons learnt along the way.

So what are you waiting for?

Go take a shower now! A shower of personal development tips, that is…

    Hello,

Nice blog, we have the same motivation ie.”little correlation between academic achievements and personal/financial success” and find blogging as a mean to address it..

Keep writing and we’ll reduce the gap- at least to our readers!

  15. Kai Wei - August 24th, 2008 at 4:37 pm

    Hey Shun Jian,

Came across your blog while browsing around, and have to say I found a gem! Loved that post about a man and his dream dying together…

Currently a undergrad at NTU, majoring in a similar Business course on Information Systems, but fortunate to realize that the value of my parents’ $12K investment in my degree is ACTUALLY being passed to which ever company hiring me upon graduation, and not to my life.

Your unfortunate experience of losing your gf due to work is really a sobering reminder of why myself and so many are working hard to free themselves (and my parents) from their jobs.

And it’s great to find yet another success story like yourself. You are truly an inspiration. :-)

Keep up with the great inspirations and motivations! I’ll be hanging around from here on out. You’ll be hearing from me quite often. :-)

Perhaps we can even met up? Singaporean here!

    Best Regards,
    Kai Wei

    Hi SY Yee,

I know your site through iPASS seminar, and i think your site has been inspiring to me as well to set up my own website.

The purpose of sending this email to you is to ask from your help.

Recently, there is advertiser asking to put up their advertisement on my site, but I do not have a charge rate for 125 x 125 or 468 x 60 space. It will be helpful if you provide some guideline or help to me, as I totally new in this space. :D

Hope to hear from you soon! thanks a lot and wish you successful!

  20. Donald - Success Secrets, One at a time - January 28th, 2009 at 6:39 pm

    Hi Yee Shun Jian
It’s never too late to come to the awareness that we are trained to become an employee, a money making machine for someone else. :)

Many people never realise this very important fact for their entire lifetime, or maybe they do, but they are just “adamant” about the idea of working for someone else and be at their mercy. There’s nothing wrong with this but they should also know that there are other alternatives out there ..

You do a great job with the blog, I just recently came across it and much of the information is really neat.

Here are a couple of links

    Youtube User with videos.
    http://www.youtube.com/user/DailyMotivation

And my personal compilation of everything I can personally fine personal-mental-financial-emotional development wise. Note it’s on the verge of a massive update.
    http://www.tinyurl.com/SuccessFile.

That is my ‘Success File’ the contents you see there are the subfolders. It currently is 1GB of information, and I have at least 6GB of data needing to be updated to it. You will have a difficult time finding a more complete source of information on personal development anywhere else when it’s updated by the end of this month.
