Too Soon Old Too Late Smart by Dr Gordon Livingston

Lol… Actually, I received this bestselling book from Sean Maher of Da Capo Press (Perseus Books Group) in the middle of last month… while I was coaching module 2 of The Patterns Of Excellence (Yes, I have not updated on that yet… Maybe I’ll make another posting with pictures for you guys soon).

I promised to do a review of the book ASAP so now that I have the time… here’s what I have to say about “Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart - Thirty True Things You Need To Know Now” by Dr. Gordon Livingston

At first glance, you might be fooled by the simplicity of the book cover and the slimness of the book (It’s only 168 pages!). After all, there are no fancy pictures/graphics to grab your attention… At the same time however, there’s nothing to distract you from the hard-hitting heart-felt wisdom that Livingston dishes out generously in the form of 30 steadfast truths of life and how best to live it.

Dr. Gordon Livingston, of all people, should know best… Each and every one of the 30 chapters carries the painful life lessons learned as a result of his involvement with the vietnam war, his experiences as a psychiatrist and the untimely and unexpected deaths of his 2 sons. Continue Reading »

101 Affirmations You Can Start Using Today!

Affirmations are great tools that can help you overcome fear, build your confidence, develop an abundance mind-set and more. The problem is that many people aren’t sure exactly how to write effective affirmations. Do they always have to be in present tense? Can they contain “negative” words like can’t, won’t, not, and so on?

There are plenty of differing opinions on the right and wrong ways to write effective affirmations, but the bottom line is that an affirmation can be considered effective if it works for YOU! The whole point of affirmations is to shift your thoughts and emotions to a more positive place so you feel more confident, happy, secure, abundant, or anything else you’re trying to accomplish.

Take a look at the sample affirmations below for starters and feel free to use them if they resonate with you. If not, try altering them slightly until they trigger the mind-set and emotional state you’re trying to attain.

Affirmations for Healthy Weight and Body Image:

- Today I love my body fully, deeply and joyfully.
- My body has its own wisdom and I trust that wisdom completely.
- My body is simply a projection of my beliefs about myself.
- I am growing more beautiful and luminous day by day.
- I choose to see the divine perfection in every cell of my body.
- As I love myself, I allow others to love me too.
- Flaws are transformed by love and acceptance.
- Today I choose to honor my beauty, my strength and my uniqueness.
- I love the way I feel when I take good care of myself.
- Today my own well-being is my top priority.

Affirmations for Self-Confidence and Self-Belief:

- Fear is only a feeling; it cannot hold me back.
- I know that I can master anything if I do it enough times.
- Today I am willing to fail in order to succeed.
- I believe that I have the strength to make my dreams come true.
- I’m going to relax and have fun with this, no matter what the outcome may be.
- I’m proud of myself for even daring to try; many people won’t even do that!
- Today I put my full trust in my inner guidance.
- I grow in strength with every forward step I take.
- I release my hesitation and make room for victory!
- With a solid plan and a belief in myself, there’s nothing I can’t do.

Affirmations for Abundance and Prosperity:

Falling

Sunday 23 March 2008 @ 11:58 am

I felt inspired to write about this feeling because it’s so special.

Have you ever found yourself in a state of “falling”? It could be falling in love… falling into a new path in your life or just because you were anticipating something…

It’s an interesting feeling… There’s an element of fear… because you’re not really sure where you are going to land… if at all… (how deep does the rabbit hole go?) You wonder what you’ll find… but at the same time you feel liberated… excited… to the world of new possibilities…

It’s the thrill that moves you… maybe that’s why people go bungee jumping… In any case, isn’t it true that when you are the most vulnerable, you are also the most ready?

P.S. What are your experiences on falling? Do share them with me by leaving a comment… Cheers!

Dick and Rick Hoyt, An Inspirational Love Story

Tuesday 11 March 2008 @ 5:18 pm

Today I just want to share with you a love story.

No, no, no… not the conventional boy-girl type of love story.

This is the inspirational story of a father’s love for his son… and it’s hard for me to do any justice to the story by telling it to you because I don’t want you to miss out any single detail about it. So… I have decided to show it to you instead.

Watch this video. Even if you have watched it before, watch it again!

See how you can apply whatever you manage to soak out of it in your own life.

Till next time…

Letting the right bus go

Monday 11 February 2008 @ 5:58 pm

I missed my bus today.

There was no frantic chasing, no dramatic shouting, no scene whatsoever at all.

In fact, you wouldn’t believe how I just let the bus go.

I didn’t realise that I was the only one left at the bus stop. There was no bus in sight and I just glanced across the road for a moment, thinking of ideas for an article I was due to complete by tomorrow. Just then, as I turned back, I saw a bus speeding past my bus stop. I managed to catch the bus number from the plate fixed at the back of the bus - 198 - the only bus from that bus stop that I could take.

As I watched the bus speeding into the distance, a feeling of foolishness overpowered me. It was only then did I realise that there was no one else around. I had waited 15 minutes for a bus with a frequency of 15-20 minutes and it didn’t stop because the only person at the bus stop didn’t flag it and nobody on that bus was alighting at that stop. What were the odds?

Apparently it was 100% at that particular moment.

And just then, as the bus faded from my sight and merged into the busy traffic at the expressway, a thought came over me.

Life is exactly like that. We wait for opportunities to come our way much as the same way we wait for the right bus to bring us to our destinations. However it takes just a momental lapse in concentration or a little distraction for the opportunities to slip us by not unlike the same way we miss the right bus because we were looking elsewhere for just 2 seconds.

And it probably will be a good analogy for relationships as well. Looking for love is a little similar to waiting for a particular bus. Like the bus that left me feeling foolish, sometimes, the right person may have entered our lives but we may not be aware of it until he/she leaves because we are not paying enough attention or because we have other priorities.

Sometimes, we need to chase a bus because it is leaving and we want to get on it. If we are lucky and the bus driver notices us and is kind enough, he/she will stop and let us board. However, if the chase really started too late or if the bus driver did not notice us or he/she did but pretended not to, we will end up with cold stares from strangers who see us fools chasing after a bus that had no intention to stop for us.

And sometimes, like the way we are blinded by love, we develop astigmatism and board the wrong bus. Those who realize their mistake early get off the bus at once and face only the embarrassment of that moment. Those who do not realize their mistake until it is too late, i.e. until the bus has gone off course from their destination, suffer from not only embarrassment and shame but may become lost for a while and be faced with the hassle of planning how they can move on from the off-course track.

In the real world, I eventually managed to board another 198 which came 15 minutes after the first one left. In the world of analogy however, I am still stuck in an off-course track looking for the right bus to bring me home…
